Always Full User Guide

Getting Started

Setting up your Always Full Bowl is simple, but there are a few key steps to make sure everything works as intended. Here's how to get started right out of the box.

Your kit includes:

  • Always Full Bowl with built-in sensors
  • Power/Data/Water line (braided stainless steel)
  • Controller [Portable System (Bottle Pump) or Installed System (Wall Unit)]
  • Bowl Filters, one of each, Cotton and Cotton/Carbon
  • Cleaning brush and Pry Tool

Before you begin:

Decide on the location of your Always Full system.

Considerations:
  • Power Source - You'll need access to a power source (standard 110v outlet) for both the Portable System (Bottle Pump) and Installed System (Wall Unit)
  • Water Source - You'll need access to a water source if using the Installed System (Wall Unit)
  • Level floor - The floor must be as level as possible.
  • Floor vibrations - A solid floor surface is best, as vibrations in the floor can cause the water to splash around, leading to false or inaccurate readings by the laser. This can cause issues when filling the Bowl.

Installing your System

  1. Remove all contents from packaging. DO NOT lift the bowl assembly by controller.
  2. Place the bowl in its final location (refer to the section titled "Before you begin").
  3. Install Cotton or Active Carbon Filter (not both). Refer to Filter Replacement.
  4. Jump ahead for installation instructions for your chosen system:
    • Portable System (Bottle Pump)
    • Installed System (Wall Unit)

Portable System (Bottle Pump)

Plumbing Options

  • Immediate Use: The Bottle Pump allows pet owners to start using the Always Full Pet Water Bowl right away, without needing to connect to a household water source.
  • Versatile Attachment: It attaches to the top of any 2-5 gallon water jug, efficiently pulling water from the jug.
  • Durable Connection: A chew-resistant, braided stainless-steel water/data line connects the Bottle Pump to the Bowl, providing power, communications, and water supply.
  • Upgradeable: The Portable System (Bottle Pump) can be easily replaced with a Installed System (Wall Unit) at a later date for a more permanent plumbing solution. Visit www.AlwaysFull.com to purchase.

How to Install

  • Silicone Hose installation: Push the silicone tube firmly onto the bottom of the pump.
  • Prepping the water jug: Leave the safety ring on the water jug. Using a wooden spoon handle or similar item, break the seal on top.
  • Install the silicone tube onto the bottom of the Bottle Pump: Firmly press the silicone tube onto the bottom of the Bottle Pump.
  • Place the Bottle Pump onto water jug: Insert the silicone tube inside the water jug, seat the Bottle Pump onto the water jug. Ensure tube goes to the bottom of the bottle.
  • Power supply: Connect the power supply to the Bottle Pump, and standard wall outlet.
Note: The unit uses very little power but needs to stay plugged in for automatic flushing and refilling. In the event of a power outage, the bowl will retain water and resume normal function once power is restored.

Hooking up the Stainless-steel braided Water/Data line to the Bottle Pump

Add either the included "straight" or "elbow" quick connect "fitting" to the water/data line by pushing it firmly to the mark on the tube. Then push the fitting onto the Bottle Pump until it stops. Repeat this process on the other end of the water/data line by adding the "bowl fitting" to the water/data line. Press this end onto the Bowl Controller as far as possible.

Usage & Maintenance

How often do I need to refill the water reservoir?

That depends on how you've set up your Always Full Bowl. There are two types of systems, and each works a little differently when it comes to water supply.

If you're using the Portable System (Bottle Pump)

This setup pulls water from a standard 2–5 gallon jug. How often you'll need to refill the jug depends on:

  • Your jug size
  • How many pets are drinking from the bowl
  • How often the flush cycle runs

For most users with one medium-sized dog, a 5-gallon jug typically lasts about 1–2 weeks. You'll notice a slight hum from the pump and a low water level if the jug runs out — that's your cue to refill.

Pro tip: Keep an extra jug on hand so you can quickly swap and refill without downtime.

If you're using the Installed System (Wall Unit).

No need to refill anything. The Installed System (Wall Unit) connects directly to your home's plumbing (similar to a fridge water line), so it refills automatically as needed. The built-in filter cleans water before it reaches the bowl.

How do I remove the Bowl controller?

Squeeze both sides of the controller "tabs" which go into the bowl. While squeezing, lift up on the controller to remove.

How does the flush cycle work?

The Always Full bowl automatically flushes every hour, and each flush lasts about 20 to 30 seconds depending on the bowl size. This quick cycle filters out debris and keeps the water fresh.

If you subscribe to the optional annual plan, you can customize how often the bowl flushes, choosing from several timing options. Keep in mind that more frequent flushes keep the bowl cleaner but will use water more quickly, especially if you are using the Portable System (Bottle Pump).

Can I use filtered, bottled, or treated water with Always Full?

Yes, you can use filtered, bottled, or treated water with your Always Full Bowl — and in some cases, it's even recommended.

If you're using the Portable System (Bottle Pump)

You're in full control of the water source. You can use:

  • Filtered tap water
  • Bottled spring or distilled water
  • Reverse osmosis or UV-treated water

Just make sure the water is food-safe and free from additives that could affect your pet's health. The system will draw from whatever water you provide in the jug, so higher quality = better hydration for your pet.

If you're using the Installed System (Wall Unit)

This setup includes a carbon block filter that removes chlorine, odors, and other common tap water impurities. It's designed to work with standard municipal water supplies. If your home already uses filtered or treated water (e.g., from a whole-house system), that's a bonus — Always Full is fully compatible.

Good to know:
  • Avoid using water with flavor additives or supplements unless recommended by your vet
  • If you use distilled water, make sure your dog is getting proper minerals through diet
  • Never use water with cleaning agents or sanitizing tablets — even trace amounts can be harmful

What happens if the power goes out?

In the event of a power outage, Always Full Bowl will hold water for your pet, refilling will resume automatically once power is restored.

Can I travel with my Always Full Bowl or use it outside?

The Always Full Bowl is designed for home use, but there are a few ways to use it while traveling or outdoors — depending on your setup.

Traveling with the Always Full Bowl

Yes, you can travel with it — but only if you're using the Portable System (Bottle Pump) version.

  • The Portable System (Bottle Pump) system runs off a water jug and standard power outlet, making it more flexible for road trips, cabins, or RV use.
  • Just pack the bowl, controller, braided water line, and your filled jug. Setup takes just a few minutes.
  • Make sure you have a stable, grounded power source wherever you're going. The pump won't run without power.
  • Avoid long-term use with car inverters unless they're rated for small appliances.
Note: The Installed System (Wall Unit) is not travel-friendly and should stay installed at home.

Using the bowl outdoors

You can place the Always Full Bowl in a covered outdoor area, but it's not fully weatherproof.

  • Only use it outdoors if it's protected from direct rain, snow, and extreme temperatures
  • Keep the controller and power supply elevated and shielded from moisture
  • For Portable System (Bottle Pump) setups, make sure the water jug stays cool and out of the sun to avoid algae growth

Best practices for portable use

  • Unplug the unit during transport
  • Keep all components dry and avoid rough handling
  • Rinse the bowl before and after travel to keep it clean
  • Never leave the unit running outdoors unattended in case of weather changes or animal interference

How do I clean or maintain the bowl?

Regular cleaning keeps your Always Full Bowl running smoothly and your dog's water fresh and safe. Here's how to take care of it without hassle.

  • Cleaning the electrical contacts (pogo pin contacts) on the Bowl: Wipe with a clean, soft slightly damp cloth or towel, dry after cleaning. DO NOT use cleaning solvents. Dry before reassembly.
  • Cleaning the electrical contacts (pogo pins) on the controller: Wipe with a clean, soft slightly damp cloth or towel. DO NOT use cleaning solvents. DO NOT expose the controller to direct water contact. Direct water contact will damage the electronics inside the Controller and the unit will not work. Direct water contact also voids the warranty. Dry before reassembly.
  • Time-of-Flight (ToF) Lens cleaning: Wipe with a clean, soft slightly damp cloth or towel. DO NOT expose the controller to direct water contact. DO NOT use cleaning solvents. Direct water contact will damage the electronics inside the Controller and the unit will not work. Direct water contact also voids the warranty. Dry before reassembly.

Is the Bowl dishwasher safe?

No, DO NOT put any components of the Bowl into the dishwasher. Handwash the Bowl and splash guard only with a mild soap, rinse well and dry before reassembly.

Cleaning the Bowl Flush Pump Inlet Screen:

Very dirty screen: Visible from inside the Bowl bottom with the Bowl Insert removed, Cotton Filter removed, and the Stainless-steel Filter Basket removed:

Remove the Controller from the Bowl and set aside. Remove the Bowl from the Base. Using a small Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws holding Flush Pump to the Bowl. Remove the Flush Pump mount. Carefully pull the Flush Pump away from the Bowl at the bottom of the Pump. Remove the Flush Pump seal and the Inlet Screen will be free to fall out and remove from the Bowl. Rinse in the sink under running water while using the Pry Tool brush end to help remove debris. Dry off and reassemble the Bowl.

Slightly dirty screen: Visible from inside the Bowl bottom with the Bowl Insert removed, Cotton Filter removed, and the Stainless-steel Filter Basket removed:

Remove the Controller from the Bowl and set aside. Remove the Bowl from the Base. Rinse in the sink under running water while using the Pry Tool brush end to help remove debris. Re-assemble the Bowl.

Cleaning ToF Inlet Screen:

Visible from inside the Bowl bottom with the Bowl Insert removed from the bottom of the Bowl, Cotton Filter removed, and the Stainless-steel Filter Basket removed:

Remove the Controller from the Bowl and set aside. Remove the Bowl from the Base. Rinse in the sink under running water through the Time-of-Flight (ToF) Chamber while using the Pry Tool brush end to help remove debris. Re-assemble the Bowl.

Cleaning ToF chamber:

Remove the Controller from the Bowl and set aside. Remove the Bowl from the Base. Rinse in the sink under running water while using the Pry Tool brush end to help remove debris. Re-assemble the Bowl.

Filters

Benefits of the carbon/cotton filter vs. cotton only filter?

  • The cotton filter traps debris in the bowl during each "flush cycle", while the carbon/cotton filter traps debris and filters the water through the carbon, helping to remove impurities in the water.

How do I activate the Cotton/Carbon Bowl filter?

  • Soak in water for 2-3 minutes, rinse under tab water for a few seconds after that. This will remove the gray dust from the carbon.

How long does the bowl's cotton filter last?

  • Generally, one month, depending on the pet breed and habits.

How long does the cotton/carbon filter last?

  • Generally, one month, depending on the pet breed and habits.

How long does the Installed System (Wall Unit) filter last?

  • Approximately four months or 100 gallons (380 liters).

Where do I get replacement filters?

  • www.AlwaysFull.com or the retailer you purchased the bowl from.

How to change cotton or cotton/charcoal filter:

  • Remove the Bowl Insert in the bottom of the bowl, allowing access to the filter. If necessary, use the Bowl "pry-tool" in the bottom of the Bowl base. Use the "hook" end of the pry-tool to "pry" it out.

How to remove stainless steel filter basket:

  • Remove the "pry-tool" in the bottom of the Bowl base. Use the "hook" end of the pry-tool to "pry" the filter basket out by "prying" on each side of the stainless-steel basket.
  • Using the brush end of the "pry-tool", gently scrub the two screens in the bowl removing any debris caught in them.

Troubleshooting

Flow Issues

Why isn't water flowing into the bowl?

If your Always Full Bowl isn't refilling like it should, don't panic — most issues come down to one of a few quick fixes. Here's how to get the water flowing again.

Step 1: Check the water source

Portable System (Bottle Pump)

  • Make sure the water jug isn't empty
  • Confirm the pump is securely connected to the jug

Installed System (Wall Unit)

  • Confirm your home's water line is turned on
  • Check for any kinks or disconnects in the hose
  • Ensure the shut-off valve (if installed) is open

Step 2: Check the power

  • Make sure the unit is plugged into a working outlet
  • Look for LED indicator lights on the controller
    • If no lights are on, unplug and replug the unit
    • If still nothing, test the outlet with another device to rule out power issues

Step 3: Laser Sensor

  • The laser sensor in the bowl detects when water is low — if it's blocked or dirty, it won't trigger a refill
  • Wipe the sensor gently with a dry cloth to remove debris or water spots
  • Make sure the bowl is seated properly in its base and hasn't shifted out of position

Step 4: Listen for the pump

If you're using the Portable System (Bottle Pump):

  • When water is low, you should hear a soft hum as the pump activates
  • No sound? Try unplugging the controller, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging it back in
  • Still nothing? The pump may need to be cleaned or replaced

Step 5: Check for clogs

  • Disconnect the hose and inspect both ends for blockages
  • Flush the line with warm water and vinegar, then rinse thoroughly
  • Reconnect everything tightly
Still not working?
If you've run through the checklist and water still isn't flowing, reach out to our support team with:
  • Your setup type [Portable System (Bottle Pump) or Installed System (Wall Unit)]
  • A description of the issue
  • Photos of your setup, if possible

We'll help you troubleshoot from there or send a replacement part if needed.

Water is gray in the bowl

This is most likely caused by the Bowl cotton/carbon filter or the Installed System (Wall Unit) carbon block filter. To resolve:

  • Remove the Bowl Controller, empty any water in the Bowl into the sink, rinse the Bowl with tap water. Remove the cotton/carbon filter from the Bowl by first removing the Bowl Insert at the bottom of the Bowl. Remove the cotton/carbon filter, soak for 2-3 minutes in water, then rinse with tap water for a few seconds.
  • Remove the Installed System (Wall Unit) carbon block filter by pressing the red release lever and pulling the filter outward. Soak the filter in tap water for five minutes and then rinse under tap water for a minute or two. Replace the filter.
  • Replace the Bowl Controller and let the Bowl refill. If gray water is still present, empty and rinse the Bowl again and let the Bowl refill.
